Mary Tyler Moore

I can't get enough of Mary Tyler Moore. I started watching it several years ago when I first moved to Minneapolis. As I neared the age of thirty, I found myself being fascinated by it even more and loved her confident approach to life and love.

While living in Minneapolis, I was obsessed with driving past the original house.

Always remember...

Love is all around, no need to waste it. You can have a town, why don't you take it. You gonna make it after all. You gonna make it after all.

Vegetable Beef Soup with Dumplings

While I was home on the farm this weekend, my Mom made a batch of her Vegetable Beef Soup. I don't know if it was the chill in the air, but this memory never tasted so good. I found some more recipes here, here and here or you can make my Mom's version from the recipe below.

Vegetable Beef Soup w/ Dumplings

1lb stewing beef
Soup bones
1 onion shredded
1Tbsp of salt

Slow boil the above for above 2-3 hrs. When completed, put in refrigerator and skim off fat. Cut up 1 pkg of carrots, 3-4 potatoes (cut in quarters) and head of cabbage. Add dumplings. Boil for about 1/2 hour.

Dumplings

1 egg, 1 tsp salt, 1/4 c. plus 2 tbsp milk
1 cup of flour, 2 tbsp oil - Mix
Drop by teaspoonfuls on top of soup
Cook 10 min uncovered, 10 min, covered

Successful Saturday

This successful Saturday was made possible by my Dad and soybeans. I was in North Dakota for a friends wedding, but was able to spend the morning on the farm. This included an early morning tutorial with coffee, sun, and each others company.

As told by Dad:

"A good bean crop is not how tall, you know, but how many pods on the plant."

"A good crop has about 40 pods. On average, there are three soybeans in each pod."

"Soybeans are ready to harvest after the plant has dried. I always hoped for a good freeze then about five days later I would harvest"

'Do you know how to tell when they are ready? [Dad puts soybean in his mouth] You can't dent them with your teeth"

Thanks, Dad!

Successful Saturday

There is nothing like the Union Square Greenmarket on a Saturday morning. It's a sensory overload with the crisp air and beautiful colors from the flowers and fruit.

This Successful Saturday was made possible by:

Three ways to help a farmer : Donate, Volunteer, Eat Locally

When I was in Chicago, I lived right near the Green City Market which is heaven as well.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Coffee Breakout

Ohhhh...helpful.

Espresso Martini

I love a good martini. I'm partial to a dirty, but will try anything in a martini glass. Newest obsession?

Espresso Martini - how can you not love spiked coffee?

So many great recipes. Here, here and here.

I like this one (cause its simple!)

Ingredients:

7 oz vodka
1/2 oz Kahlua
1/2 oz espresso
4 coffee beans, for garnish
Preparation:

In a cocktail shaker, shake vodka with crushed ice for about 30 seconds. Add Kahlua and espresso and give another couple of shakes to combine. Let stand for a minute, to fully chill through. Strain into 2 chilled martini glasses, and add 2 coffee beans to each glass.

Serves 2

Cheers!
