Introduce Me Right

I just read this perfect little etiquette tip.

__________

When you're introducing someone, you should always say their name first and their relationship to you second.

Wrong: "This is my sister, Staci."
Right: "This is Staci, my sister."

That way, you spotlight the person--not their connection to you. It's a small thing, but it makes a lovely difference!

I'm going to put this to the test this weekend. I'll even introduce people who already know each other.

Best of love and happiness this weekend.

Gazpacho

I'm not a quitter. I've tried gazpacho on several occasions and hated it every time (why is this soup...cold?). But, I keep trying. I find it interesting. Did you know, originally gazpacho was nothing but bread, water, and olive oil, all pounded in a large wooden bowl called a dornillo. It was poor people's food. (Kinda like today's McDonalds)

There are some great recipes out there. Here, here and here.

Keep on keeping on!

Successful Saturday

I like the heat. There, I said it. With everyone fleeing the city or staying in with the AC on high, I latched onto the city and soaked up every ounce of sunshine I could get.

This successful Saturday was brought to you by -

Seven Daughters - I'm a red wine girl and rarely drift away. However, this white wine blend took a front seat this Saturday.

Zoku Quick Pop Maker - Everything is customized, darling. Even your frozen pops.

Flute Gramercy - Are you kidding me with this gloriousness? Always up for a champagne bar.

I hope everyone had a really great weekend!

The Fan

I should start this post by saying...I don't have an air conditioner. I've been putting it off as long as possible, but now with temps reaching over 100 degrees F here in NYC, I seem more crazy than economical.

To cool down, I've been looking at fans. Yes. Looking. It cools me.

Home Depot offers fans for the industrial type.

Macy's offers an alternative from the same old plastic white fan.

The original. Buy at Urban Outfitters.

Stay Cool!

Just a little reminder...

Alexander Technique

When I first moved to NYC, I heard random citations to the Alexander Technique. I had no idea what it meant, so I simply nodded and smiled in a nice Midwestern way.

The more time that passes, the more it interestes me. It's a simple way to improve ease and everyday tention. You can read more about it here, here, and here.

How Do I Say Endive?

I love a good endive salad. I'm always hesitant to order it because I'm not quite sure how its pronounced. (I say it really fast or just point at the menu). Is it en-dive or on-deev or maybe even end-ive? I found this delicious explanation which helped me greatly. (I also asked my friend Mieke who seems to know these things). ANSWER - Just say en-dive.

I had a good endive salad in London, like I mentioned here and I always order the endive salad when I go here.

I plan on making my own, from this recipe here.

It's an endive revolution!

I have a busy week approaching, but all good, and all happy.
Have a very wonderful day!

Successful Saturday

I have nothing. With this past month in summer overload, I found myself packing every little errand I accrued into this past Saturday.

I did, however, spot this wall decal while making a return at Club Monaco. (Do I really need ANOTHER back dress?)

I think its kinda lovely in a fluffy type of way.

Which then, led me to learn about Urban Expressions, which features luxury, eco-friendly designs. Who knew?

No matter what, as long as you are learning and exploring, the day can be deemed successful.

I hope all enjoyed their weekend!

Swatch it Up

Do you remember the Swatch watch? The fabulous plastic time piece under $50?

Now, their new generation is here. Their new line, New Gent is cool enough to make you put down your smart phone and start looking at your wrist again (but also put down an extra $20; these babies go for $70)

I wish all a very beautiful day and weekend.

Happy Bastille Day!

Happy Bastille Day!

Bathtubs

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I love bathroom design. I was particularly mesmerized by these bathtubs.

An egg-shaped tub with a a mosaic forest scene backsplash.

Be one with trees. A wood tub.

A clean line tub (with a sliding door leading out to a shower on a terrace!)

This neutral-tone bathroom would fit perfect in a farmhouse, eh?

This nickel-and-brass tub is from an apartment in Paris and dates from the 19th century! Loves it.

Have a great day and go wash up!

Caribou/Starbucks

I recieved a text from my sister yesterday that made me think. It simply read
"Caribou or Starbucks?"

Where is there a Caribou in NYC?

After a detailed search, I found out the closest Caribou is in Washington D.C. hvordan er det posssible?

When I was living in Minneapolis, people were fanatics about their Caribou. In Fargo, Caribou is known for their ideal meeting spot. In Chicago, it had a true love following.

Why no NYC love, Caribou?

Moral of this story? Well, there is none.

Regardless, it's a great day.

Successful Saturday

This past Saturday, I was in Chicago for my dear friend Diana's wedding. I was able to see old friends, make new ones, and watch two people in love make a promise to one another. A girl couldn't ask for more!

This successful Saturday was made possible by-

Lake Michigan (Oak Street/North Ave Beach)- before the wedding extravaganza started, I wanted to visit an old friend. This is one Chicago perk NYC cannot touch.

The city of Chicago. This beautiful piece of art was gracefully dancing in the background during the wedding ceremony.

Beautiful day. Beautiful wedding. Beautiful people.

I hope everyone is able to have a Saturday like this!

I can't believe it is already mid-July. Summer, please slow down!

Wheat Wedding

My dear friend Diana is getting married this weekend, and I can't help but get caught up in wedding wonderment.

Turns out, farm weddings with wheat accents have a special place in my heart (shocking!)

I can feel the August heat approaching in NYC! I hope everyone is able to enjoy the nice weather!
